opium smoking Chinese merchant, the colonial French officer at the
market and the French soldiers attending a traditional dance

A. PHNOM KULEN & BANTEAY SREI TEMPLES

In the morning drive to Phnom Kulen
located 60km from Siem Reap. This is where the 500 year long age of
Angkor began. Phnom Kulen is the holy mountain where Jayavarman II
initiated a royal “god of the king” linga cult and proclaimed a unified
and independent Cambodia under a single ruler. Several sites lie
scattered across the mountaintop, the most famous being the river of
1000 linga with its impressive riverbed rock carvings that sit on the
bottom of a stream from which water flows year round. lunch at a local

at Banteay Srei also known as “the citadel of women”. Made of pink

E. BENG MEALEA AND KOH KER TEMPLES

departure from Siem Reap to Koh Ker, temple (approx. 150 km – 2
drive). A trip to Koh Ker brings you deep into the Cambodian countryside
and way back in time. Head northeast from the west of Kulen National
Park. From there it’s 85 km to the small village of Seong, passing
through some remote villages and a beautiful forest populated by deer.

Morning:continue to visit Beng Mealea temple (approx. 60 km – 1h drive).
Beng Mealea is Lost in the jungle and almost forgotten by the local
population, the little explored temple of Beng Mealea (XIth c) is
waiting to be rediscovered by the adventurous travelers. The sprawling
jungle temple covering over one square kilometer is largely overrun by
vegetation. Constructed in a distinctly Angkor Wat style, Beng Mealea
preceded and may have served as a prototype of sorts for Angkor Wat.

Meet with you at hotel lobby and drive to Kbal Spean, which is
located 50 km from Siem Reap. It takes about 1h to reach the site and
you will spend a moderately easy 45-minute Uphill walk through the
woods. Kbal Spean means literally “the head of the river”. This is one
of the rivers of 1000 lingas made up of unique Lingas stands chiseled
into the riverbed of the Siem Reap river. It was believed that the
lingas spiritually fertilized the waters that fed the Eastern Baray and
